Enschede based technology developer and producer Demcon, and LABORIE Medical Technologies (Toronto, Canada) reached an agreement for Demcon to provide assembly production, quality control and product service and repair support for certain LABORIE medical products that are currently manufactured at LABORIE’S Enschede facility.
“We are looking forward to building a long-term partnership with LABORIE, and further strengthening our position in the medical market,” states director Dennis Schipper of Demcon.
“We are pleased to announce the transfer of some of operations to Demcon, a respected and established third-party contract manufacturer located just two short blocks from our Enschede facility,” commented Paul Haydock, Chief Operations Officer at LABORIE.”
As part of this agreement, 17 LABORIE employees who are involved in the Operations being outsourced to Demcon will transfer by law to Demcon, and become employees of Demcon effective 1 november 2018.
In January (2018) LABORIE announced that the company would be consolidating some functions from their Enschede facility into other global sites.
“We are very happy to be able to provide this opportunity to these 17 employees. This transition will also help to ensure continued production quality of our products by having the same experienced and knowledgeable employees handling the same work for Demcon,” added Haydock.
Demcon started 25 years ago in Enschede as a technology developer and in the last few years has also increasingly focused on production, especially of medical systems. To this end, the company has set up high-quality production facilities and is currently building a new facility for production in Enschede, the Demcon Technology Center.
Director Dennis Schipper of Demcon considers the partnership with LABORIE as a next step in the growth strategy of his company. “We want to establish a long-term collaboration with LABORIE. This strengthens our position in the market for medical products.
In the future I also see opportunities to conduct product development for LABORIE,” Benno Lansdorp, business developer medical devices at Demcon, adds: “LABORIE products are comparable in terms of technology and complexity to the medical devices that Demcon develops and produces. This fits well with our competencies for the production of complex modules that we can add value to.”
Initially Demcon will carry out the acquired production and service activities in LABORIE’S Enschede facility, Lansdorp says. “As soon as the Demcon Technology Center is ready, expected first quater 2019, we are moving the activities and employees to our new building. The Demcon Technology Center is geared towards the continued growth of Demcon.”
On 4 October, Demcon will celebrate its 25th anniversary in Enschede.
