Demcon Unmanned Systems is a business partner of the Researchlab Autonomous Shipping (RAS). This cooperation aims to further develop autonomous shipping with technological solutions for the public and private sector, standardisation and regulatory advice.
“We now also have the opportunity to feed scientists of Delft University of Technology with practical challenges,” said Fedor Ester, managing director of Demcon Unmanned Systems. “In addition, we can perform commercially relevant and application-oriented demonstration projects and system tests at the various test locations the RAS has to offer. The partnership with RAS also fits well with the cooperation that Demcon Unmanned Systems has with Van Oord, also a partner of RAS. With Van Oord, an industrial unmanned vessel is being developed which will be suitable for various applications, like multibeam-sonar survey and taking (soil) samples. This system will require unmanned and semi-autonomous work in waters where the GPS signal is not always available for navigation.”
The RAS has been active since March 2019 and is based in Delft. It makes the connection between (a joint research agenda of) the government, science and the business community and thus provides scope for applied scientific research in combination with the market. The RAS connects partners who start projects, both commercially and socially, to contribute to the development and implementation of autonomous shipping.
