Demcon develops and realises robotic systems for a diverse range of applications, such as medical robots for diagnostics and therapy, inspection robots and drones. The robotic systems business unit focuses specifically on mobile and/or autonomous robotic systems. Promising application areas include inspection, maintenance, cleaning and safety.
Demcon robotic systems can count on all the mechatronic competencies available within the Demcon group for the development of autonomous and mobile robots. A wealth of experience has been amassed with complex high-tech systems that carry out precisely prescribed tasks. Autonomous robot systems must also be able to respond effectively to continuously changing circumstances. Demcon Robotic Systems has the relevant competencies and necessary creativity as well as thorough knowledge of software and sensors. This broad basis enables it to identify the right solutions in complex robotics projects.
Demcon robotic systems has knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and vision (such as stereo cameras) and has invested in SLAM expertise, simultaneous localisation and mapping. With SLAM an autonomous system such as a mobile robot can formulate a map of an unknown environment and use this map to navigate. In the control software, Demcon provides the autonomous robot with rules so that it can respond to unexpected situations. Demcon has extensive experience with simulations and these help in formulating these rules in advance.
Demcon robotic systems uses ROS (Robot Operating System) for rapid prototyping of new designs. For the final industrial implementation, Demcon takes care of the total programming in Python and C#. This guarantees control software reliability and maintainability.
The development of robotic systems at Demcon is not only software driven. There are also sometimes difficult hardware design challenges. This includes the mechanics for inspection robots that need to be able to move flexibly and unhindered in confined spaces, such as in pipes. Or the electronics for energy-efficient control, taking into account the limited battery capacity. No limitations are set on the challenges that Demcon robotic systems tackle.
