Queen Máxima visits producer of respiratory systems.

Her Majesty Queen Máxima on Thursday afternoon April 16, made a working visit to technology company Demcon in Enschede. The visit took place in the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) breakout. Demcon developed, tested and produced a respiratory system suitable for use by patients in intensive care.

Queen Máxima engaged developers of the respiratory systems and the people working on the production of this device in discussion. During the tour, Queen Máxima was given an explanation of the respiratory technology developed by Demcon, the clinical tests performed on the system and the new production lines. Queen Máxima also spoke with representatives of the suppliers of components produced by other companies involved in the system’s development and of the national expert group of respiratory equipment specialists. In this concluding session, the steps made to be able to develop, test and produce a complete system in a short period of time were described, and the training of production workers was discussed.

Demcon focuses on using technological knowledge to solve social issues. The company had already been producing separate respiratory modules and, in addition, works on medical solutions, safety monitoring systems and on sustainable water and energy systems.

Through means of telephone calls and where possible, working visits, King Willem-Alexander and King Máxima keep themselves informed of the impact of the corona breakout and express their support and appreciation for the efforts of so many in fighting the pandemic. In coordination with the involved organizations, measures are implemented to enable working visits to take place.
